Antique car show entertains with a drive-by

Our community’s parking lot was recently the site of a drive-by car show hosted by the Antique Automobile Club of America – Lawrence Region.

“Since we’re all homebound these days, we got to thinking it would be kind of nice to get a bunch of our cars and go around and drive by our members that are homebound and through parking lots of retirement communities,” said Paul Maxon, club treasurer.

Lawrence Presbyterian Marion was one of three communities who got to enjoy the first drive-by car show put on by this group. From a 1960 Corvette to a ’64 Mustang and ’69 GTO, the local club had about a dozen cars drive through the parking lot so residents could watch from their windows.

“We hope everybody enjoyed it and had as much fun as we had,” said Pete.

The club, which has been around since the early 1950s, has hosted an annual swap meet at the fairgrounds for 57 years. They also have a free car show every year for the community to enjoy. This year’s free car show is Sunday, October 4 and there will be more than 100 cars to view. Everyone is invited!
