Life comes full circle for new Lawrence Presbyterian Manor Director of Nursing

Lawrence Presbyterian Manor Director of Nursing Wade Walckner is, in many ways, returning to the place where it all began.

“I had been active duty in the Army as a nurse, so when I moved to Lawrence after my military career was over, I got my first job at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor in July of ’97.”

That first stint at “The Manor” as an LPN was literally life changing.

“I met my wife here,” he recalled. “I proposed to her in front of our residents. It was incredibly meaningful and memorable.”

After leaving for several years to pursue other opportunities in the medical field, Walckner returned as an agency nurse during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Eventually, he came back full-time because he “loved and missed the place.”

Now that he’s moved into his role as Direct of Nursing, Walckner said he’s looking forward to “creating a fun, positive, energetic environment that starts with happy employees.”
